Concerns new council planning scheme favours developers and could erode the Gold Coast lifestyle

A GROUNDSWELL of disquiet over exactly what developers can and can’t do under Gold Coast planning laws is coming to a head less than two months out from the council election.
Three new community action groups have been formed in the past three weeks alone in response to development projects which have been approved or considered far beyond the limits of the council’s planning scheme.
However, Mayor Tom Tate said residents had already endorsed the new City Plan 2015 during the consultation period and it would take effect next week no matter what.
The council’s upcoming consideration of Sunland’s $600-million, two-tower The Mariner development at Main Beach sparked concerns the plan favoured developer interests over those of the community and that public infrastructure will not keep pace in newly-created high density areas.…[continue]
