Resolution regarding the draft Top of the Spit Precinct Plan
Passed by the AGM of the Main Beach Association, 13 November 2023
- That this consultation be in line with the previous Spit Master Plan consultation, ie “The Spit Master Plan is widely considered a plan ‘for the community, by the community’ and has been acknowledged as an exemplar of planning with two Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) awards at both state and national levels” (Source: Derick Richards)
- That the Gold Coast Waterways Authority reinstall the alignment of Seaworld Drive and the associated car parking and not remove this section as per the draft Top of the Spit Precinct Plan
- That the Gold Coast Waterways Authority commit to a capped number of major events per year and extensive community consultation prior to approval of any new or enlarged events on The Spit
- That the definition of ‘major events’ should be an addition to the Top of the Spit draft Precinct Plan
- That businesses operating on The Spit adversely impacted by major events and forced to close, where normally they would trade, be compensated by the hirer/s for lost businesses, including the wages for those staff unable to work. The compensation amount to be included in the fees paid to GCWA for hiring the public open space.
